Last weekend we went on a small journey to attend an engagement ceremony near Thodupuzha, from Vaikom in the direction of Idukki, in the foothills of the Western Ghats mountains. Weddings are big here, regardless of whether one is Christian, Muslem or Hindu. After the church ceremony there was a big feast meal. Nowadays this consists of mainstream Keralan food. However in earlier times food was much more adapted to the season: Ayurveda states there are 6 main seasons. Now we are in Hemanta/Shishira, or the 'winter season', in Kerala. This means as much that the nights are cool and foggy. But in the daytime it still can get 35 degrees or more, because the sky is blue and the sun can shine relentlessly. It is a season when many people fall ill will colds and throat aches, partly because of the intense temperature shifts, challenging the human metabolism inside.

In the meantime everyone at the Sreekrishna Clinic in Vaikom is working hard to have everything prepared for th ebig event of Saturday January12th. A professional artist is making a painting of Dhanvantari at the outer wall of the front gate of the clinic. It is very precise work and his guru is there to supervise the work and the artist sometimes has to make corrections on the basis of his master.

Arnitha is overseeing the well being of the patients, with all this activity right outside their rooms. And as usual, she is doing that with a big smile and a good dosis of passion for her work.
